The new national chair of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that the ruling party’s doors are open for opposition party leaders, including Rabiu Kwankwaso, the chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former governor of Kano State.
There have been speculations that the founder of the Kwankwasiya movement may join the APC ahead of the 2027 presidential election, and Yilwatda is not ruling out the ex-governor’s defection to his party.
Yilwatda said in an interview with Channels Television hours after he emerged as the National Chair of the ruling party on Thursday.
When asked about Kwankwaso’s possible defection to the ruling party, the APC chair said, “Our doors are open. When everybody’s time is due, it will manifest itself and that is also for everybody who has come back to the APC.”
Yilwatda was appointed as the APC chair at the ruling party’s NEC meeting in Abuja almost a month after Dr Abdullahi Ganduje stepped down as the national chairman of the party.
In his acceptance speech, Yilwatda said his priority is to ensure that the APC is united.
