What time do polls open on Election Day? Here’s what to know for all 50 states.

It’s not a presidential election, but millions of Americans will head to the polls to vote in state and local elections on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Do you know what time your local polling place opens?

If you plan to vote or drop off your ballot in person, you need to know where your polling precinct is and when it opens. This information depends on which state you live in, and sometimes even on your county or municipality.

Most states open their polls at 7 a.m. local time. Others start voting as early as 5 a.m. or as late as 10 a.m.

What time do polls open on Election Day, Nov. 4? Here’s what to know for all 50 states.

Here’s what time polls will open across the U.S.

Polls open at 6:00 a.m. in these states: (all times are local)

  • Arizona: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Connecticut: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Illinois: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Indiana: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Kentucky: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Louisiana: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Maine: For municipalities with a population of 500 or more, polls can open between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.; For municipalities with a population of less than 500, polls can open between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.; All voting places close at 8 p.m.

  • Missouri: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • New Jersey: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • New York: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Virginia: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Polls open at 6:30 a.m. in these states: (all times are local)

  • North Carolina: 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • Ohio: 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • West Virginia: 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Which states have congressional races this year?

Polls open at 7:30 a.m. in these states: (all times are local)

  • Arkansas: 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Polls open at 8:00 a.m. in these states: (all times are local)

  • Nebraska (Central Time): 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Timing varies in these states: (all times are local)

  • In New HampshireTennessee and Washington, polls are open depending on your county or municipality.

  • In North Dakota, voting begins between 7 and 9 a.m., while in Vermont, it starts from 5 to 10 a.m.
