Sylva’s aide slams EFCC over “Wanted” declaration, says its coordinated political onslaught

Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for declaring Sylva wanted, describing the move as a “coordinated political onslaught” aimed at damaging his principal’s reputation.

In a statement issued on Monday night, Bokoru said the announcement—made through the EFCC’s social media platforms—did not follow formal communication channels or established procedures. According to him, the development appears to be a continuation of what he called recurring attempts to portray Sylva in a negative light.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday announced via social media that it had declared Chief Timipre Sylva wanted. No formal communication was extended to him, and no established protocol was observed,” the statement read.

He added that recent allegations against Sylva reflect what he views as shifting narratives around previous claims, insisting that the new accusations should be properly examined.

Bokoru maintained that Sylva remains committed to due process and lawful institutions, noting that he will honour the EFCC’s invitation once he concludes an ongoing medical check-up in the United Kingdom.

He further expressed confidence in Sylva’s innocence, stating that the refinery project referenced in the EFCC’s notice is a legitimate undertaking with documentation available for verification.

“To our friends, allies, and well-wishers: this, too, shall pass. Truth, though often delayed, remains consistent. Those behind this campaign will not prevail,” the statement added.
