Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has been celebrated for his outstanding achievements on and off the pitch, clinching two top honours at the Nigerian UK Sports Awards (NUKSA).

Troost-Ekong won the Best Performance in a Major International Competition Award in recognition of his commanding displays at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where he was voted Player of the Tournament. His leadership and resilience were instrumental in Nigeria’s impressive run to the final, further solidifying his reputation as one of Africa’s most influential defenders.

He also received the Philanthropy & Humanitarian Award for the impactful work of the Troost-Ekong Foundation, which supports children in underserved Nigerian communities through education, sports development, and access to essential resources. The foundation continues to expand its reach, offering opportunities and hope to young people across the country.

Beyond his football career and philanthropy, Troost-Ekong is an early investor in Sokito, a sustainable football boot brand, reflecting his commitment to innovation and positive change in global football. His involvement showcases both his advocacy for sustainability in sport and his leadership as Super Eagles captain.

Expanding his influence into media, Troost-Ekong will launch a new podcast, Power and Purpose, on September 25. Co-hosted with England rugby star Maro Itoje and broadcaster Leon Mann, the show will feature national team captains across sports, exploring leadership in sport, business, and beyond. Fans can tune in via listenpowerandpurpose.komi.io or follow @wtroostekong, @maroitoje, and @leon_mann on social media.

Speaking on his double honour, Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude: “I’m truly humbled to receive these awards. Football has given me so much, and I feel a responsibility to use my platform to give back. This recognition is not just for me, but for everyone working tirelessly to make a difference through the Troost-Ekong Foundation.”

The NUKSA ceremony, which celebrates the excellence and contributions of Nigerian athletes at home and abroad, highlighted Troost-Ekong’s unique blend of sporting achievement, social impact, and forward-looking leadership.

With his football career, humanitarian work, sustainability advocacy, and media ventures continuing to grow, Troost-Ekong’s latest accolades reinforce a legacy being built both in football history and in communities across Nigeria and beyond.
