PDP Crisis: Let’s not abandon a ship in need of repairs – Saraki begs

Must read

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has appealed to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to give up on the party amid its current internal crisis, urging them to stay united and committed to rebuilding the platform.

Saraki made the call in a heartfelt statement shared via his official Facebook page on Wednesday, following his participation in a PDP Consultative Conference convened by one of the party’s founding fathers, Professor Jerry Gana.

“It was an honour to join the Founding Fathers and stakeholders of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, today at the Consultative Conference,” Saraki wrote.

The former Senate President emphasized the PDP’s legacy of national growth, noting that during its 16-year rule, Nigeria rose to become Africa’s largest economy and achieved a stronger sense of unity.

“Let’s not abandon a ship in need of repairs. If you must leave, let it be on ideology—not anger,” Saraki urged. “The ultimate goal must be to put Nigeria first and rise above the propaganda designed to divide us as a party.”

He commended Professor Gana for rallying party stakeholders for what he described as a “family meeting,” and reaffirmed his personal commitment to the PDP, saying he would never give up on the party.

“The PDP was built on solid foundations. Its founders handed it over to us with trust. God forbid that we become the generation that lets it fall apart,” Saraki stated. “I urge all true patriots of the PDP to agree that for the greater good of Nigeria, leaving is not an option.”
