—Pledge to Deliver 1 Million Votes for Tinubu, APC Chairman Says Party Can Absorb More Members

The 2024 governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in Ondo State, Comrade Fred Akinbuli, along with the party’s entire state structure, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were received into the APC by the state leadership, led by Chairman Engineer Ade Adetimehin, who welcomed them as part of what he described as a “progressive family.”
“APC is a progressive and welfarist party. We are one united family and always open to people of good intentions ready to contribute to the growth of our state,” Adetimehin said, urging the new members to return to their wards and actively support the party’s development agenda.
The event was attended by Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who commended the APC’s cohesion in the state. Represented by Hon. Olumuyiwa Asagunla, Director-General of the Asiwaju Mandate Group, the minister expressed confidence that Ondo State would deliver over 90 percent of votes for President Bola Tinubu in 2027, up from 68 percent in the previous election.
Comrade Fred Akinbuli described his defection as a milestone in his 20-year political journey, noting it was his first-ever party switch since joining politics in 2005.
“We decided to join the ruling party in recognition of APC’s achievements across sectors and to contribute to its progressive agenda. The entire AA structure and delegates across the state are now part of APC,” he said.
Akinbuli also cited his appointment as Deputy Director-General of the Progressives Network for Tinubu (PNT), under Pastor Olumide Obadele and with the approval of Minister Tunji-Ojo, as a motivating factor in the move.
Speaking at the event, Pastor Olumide Obadele, Director-General of PNT in Ondo State, expressed optimism that the defection would consolidate APC’s grassroots dominance and pledged that the group would deliver over one million votes for the party in upcoming elections.
The APC state chairman, Engineer Adetimehin, assured that the party has the capacity to absorb as many members as possible, emphasizing that the party’s commitment to people’s welfare reflects its progressive identity.
Prominent APC leaders present included Mrs. Atinuke Akadiri, State Woman Leader; Hon. Agboola Kelly, party elder; Hon. Yusuf Ogunleye, Director-General of Grassroots Movement for Tinubu; and Hon. Dayo Awude.
