The Ogun State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has said it has not accepted the resignation letters submitted by its State Woman Leader, Hon. Foluke Precious Bagbansoro, and State Youth Leader, Hon. Funso Jide Adekunle.
Addressing journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday, the NNPP State Chairman, Barrister Olufemi Aina, said the party considers the resignations “procedurally defective,” insisting that both officials remain members of the state executive until the proper process is followed as outlined in the party’s constitution.
Aina explained that under Article 8.2.2 of the NNPP Constitution, any officer intending to resign must first obtain clearance from the party secretariat after returning all party property in their possession. He noted that neither official had completed these steps.
He added that party officers are also expected to give reasonable notice before stepping down.
According to him, the resignations were submitted without prior discussion with him or the state executive committee, a departure from established practice within the party.
Aina said disciplinary measures could be considered if the two officials fail to fulfill the necessary procedures or continue to be absent from party activities.
He urged members of the NNPP across Ogun State to remain calm and committed to the party’s mobilisation efforts, noting that the party remains focused on strengthening its structures at the grassroots level. He also encouraged members to attend the forthcoming meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 13, in Abeokuta South.
Bagbansoro and Adekunle had earlier communicated their decisions to resign in separate letters to the state chairman, citing reasons including ideological differences, personal conviction, and future political aspirations.
Their announcements have generated discussions about possible political realignments within the Ogun NNPP, following recent defections involving some members.
With the latest position of the state chairman, the status of their resignation is expected to be clarified once the party’s internal procedures are concluded.
