Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has expressed sorrow over the death of Major General Abdullahi Mohammed (rtd), a former Military Governor of the defunct Benue-Plateau State, who passed away on Wednesday in Abuja.
In a condolence message issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the Governor described the late General Mohammed as a disciplined, courageous, and patriotic officer who served Nigeria with honour and distinction.
He praised the deceased for his selfless service to the nation and his remarkable contributions to the development of the old Benue-Plateau State during his tenure as military governor.
Governor Mutfwang noted that General Mohammed’s leadership left indelible footprints, particularly in promoting peace, discipline, and infrastructural growth in the region.
According to the statement, the Governor also commended the late General’s outstanding record in public service, especially his tenure as Chief of Staff to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Yar’Adua.
He said General Mohammed’s wisdom, humility, and administrative competence were instrumental in strengthening governance at the national level.
Governor Mutfwang described the deceased as “a man of uncommon humility, integrity, and administrative acumen,” adding that his steadfastness and commitment to national unity remained exemplary.
“He lived a life dedicated to public service, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, compassion, and selfless devotion to humanity and national progress,” the Governor stated.
He further noted that Nigeria had lost one of its most experienced and patriotic statesmen, a soldier and administrator who served with courage and conscience.
On behalf of his family, the government, and the people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and all who mourn the passing of General Mohammed.
He prayed that the Almighty God would grant the departed soul eternal rest and comfort all who are grieving.
