PORT HARCOURT—Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and his Rivers and Oyo states counterpart, Siminialayi Fubara and Dapo Abiodun, have expressed dismay over the deplorable state of the Nigeria Police Force Training School, in Rivers State.

The governors spoke during an assessment tour of the police training facility in the state, yesterday.

The high-powered delegation of the just inaugurated National Economic Council’s Committee on the Overhaul of Security Training Institutions, made up of governors and security stakeholders, led by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, visited three facilities in Nonwa , Tai Local Government Area of the state.

The team, which includes Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, visited the Police Training School to inspect the condition of the facility and identify areas for improvement.

The governors, who were given a one-month deadline to submit a blueprint for the renovation and modernization of security training institutions across Nigeria, on arrival were shocked by the poor condition of the facilities, including collapsed roofs, missing windows, and overgrown grasses.

Speaking Mbah, stated that the facilities have endured decades of neglect, making it impossible to train quality police personnel, while emphasizing that the situation is unacceptable and requires urgent attention.

Mba said the visit is part of the National Economic Council’s, NEC, efforts to overhaul security training institutions and improve training conditions for security personnel in Nigeria.

He stated that the committee’s report is expected to inform targeted interventions to rebuild and equip security training institutions nationwide.

He said: “The President has recognized that security is paramount and it is the primary responsibility of any government. We are here to assess the facilities and develop a comprehensive plan for renovation and modernization.

“These institutions have endured decades of neglect, we cannot expect quality police personnel to emerge from decayed and dilapidated training environments.”

However, Governor Abiodun said the President has demonstrated his commitment to security sector reform and that the committee is working to meet the one-month deadline.

Abiodunsaid: “This is a very clear demonstration by the President of his political will to support the law enforcement architecture. We are determined to meet the deadline and ensure that these institutions are refurbished and equipped to train our police personnel.”

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara said the visit was to enhance the capacity of police officers and improve security in the country.

Fubara said: “We are committed to supporting this effort and ensuring that our police officers are trained to provide top-notch service to the public.”
