By Bashir Bello, KANO

A political ally of the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Engr. Sagir Koki, has resigned his membership from the NNPP.

This was coming barely days after another member representing the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency at the green chamber, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, also dumped the party and returned to the All Progressive Congress, APC.

Koki cited the issue of the internal crisis rocking the NNPP party leadership at the centre as the reason for his resignation from the party.

The lawmaker, in a letter of resignation addressed to the Ward Chairperson, Zaitawa Ward, Kano Municipal, said the crisis has continued to hinder him from discharging his duties and providing the people of the area with desired representation at the green chamber.

According to him, “By virtue of the right conferred upon me by Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), Article 7.1 of the NNPP Constitution and all other relevant extant laws, I, Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, do hereby resign my membership of the NNPP effective from Tuesday, the 11th day of November, 2025.

“My decision to exit the NNPP becomes necessary because the internal crisis in the party leadership at the centre has made it difficult, if not impossible, for me to continue discharging my duties and provide my people, the good people of Kano Municipal, with the desired representation in the House of Representatives.

“Thank the party most sincerely for the opportunity afforded me to serve under its platform. The support, trust and experience I have gained during my reign as a member have been invaluable, and I remain deeply grateful to the leadership and members of the party at all levels,” the lawmaker, Koki, said.

Meanwhile, with the resignation of Koki, it is another big blow to the NNPP in Kano State.

Recall that in the past the Kwankwaso-led faction of the NNPP had lost a senator, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila (Kano South), and other high-profile House of Representatives members to the ruling All Progressives Congress at the centre.
