The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, yesterday received in audience the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Yu Dunhai, and a high-powered delegation from the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), led by Yang Yang, Vice President of its Marketing/Sales Committee.
In a statement, the minister’s media aide, Tunde Moshood, said Ambassador Yu reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s aviation development agenda, describing aviation as a critical driver of economic growth and regional connectivity.
“Nigeria has the market, and I see the potential. The economy is going to bounce back soon, and China is ready to be a reliable partner in this growth trajectory,” Ambassador Yu said.
In a separate engagement, COMAC executives, including Michael C. Luo (Technology Director), Deng Zhiliang (Deputy Head of Marketing), Tim Chen (Vice President, AVIC-KDN Airport Engineering Co. Ltd), and Ma Mengyao (General Manager, AVIC-KDN Nigeria Branch), held strategic discussions with the minister on areas of collaboration. These include aircraft leasing, technical support services, and long-term cooperation with Nigerian airlines.
Keyamo, who had earlier visited COMAC headquarters in China, welcomed the discussions, stressing Nigeria’s readiness for mutually beneficial partnerships.
“We are ready for this collaboration and will soon lead a delegation of domestic airline executives to COMAC’s headquarters to deepen these discussions. Nigeria is open to allowing COMAC to use our country as a base to access the wider African market,” the minister stated.
The twin visits mark a significant step in strengthening Nigeria-China aviation relations and open new opportunities for domestic airlines to access modern aircraft leasing and support services tailored to Nigeria’s rapidly expanding aviation market.
