UMUAHIA – The Igbo Community Association, Abuja, has called for caution over the scheduled November 20, 2025, date for judgment on the ongoing trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The group said the decision by Justice James Omotoso to deliver judgment on November 20, 2025, against the detained IPOB leader may ignite another crisis in Nigeria.
President of the Igbo community in Abuja, Engr. Ikenna Ezenekwe, in a statement, disclosed that his group is calling for caution because the IPOB leader has yet to present his defence in court, adding that it would be unfair to judge and deliver judgment against a defendant who is yet to present his defence.
He noted that Kanu was illegally abducted from Kenya and brought to Nigeria, and has been detained for four years for a crime he is yet to be convicted.
He tasked President Bola Tinubu to adopt a political situation to release the IPOB leader and also call on Justice Omotoso to handle the situation with wisdom and extreme caution, considering the designation of Nigeria as a country of concern by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump.
He said;”Nigeria cannot be allowed to undergo another unrest amidst a growing anxiety over President Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.
“President Tinubu should listen to the voices of the masses who are calling for a political solution to the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu matter. As a Democrat, it is the most suitable path to follow to reach lasting solution.
“Igbo Community in the FCT, with the good people of Nigeria, are calling on the President to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and end the growing quagmire.
“The South East and igbo speaking regions of Nigeria need a return to peace. Too many lives and properties have been lost and destroyed. The region needs a return to sanity.
“Let us not allow November 20, 2025 to turn to a lightning rod for Nigerians. Give Nnamdi Kanu Justice and free him.Together, we can make Nigeria a peaceful place to live in.”
