Did the company behind the Roblox video game announce it is “shutting down on January 1st”? No, that’s not true: A viral screenshot of such a message appeared on an account labeled “parody” on X. It did not come from the official company website and there were no news articles about any such shutdown.
The image and claim appeared in a post on X (archived here) where it was published by an account named @RobloxNoobifier on December 16, 2025 with a comment that read:
NEWS: Roblox is Shutting Down On January 1st
This is what the image in the post looked like:

The text in the image read:
Official Announcment
After careful consideration we have decided to shut down the platform. This is due to us not keeping our promise of keeping the platform safe and to avoid us losing money.
We understand that this decsion may be difficult for you but we know it is the best option..
We want to thank you all for playing and connecting on the platform.On January 1st 2026 the platform will not longer operate
One clue the message probably wasn’t real is that it misspelled “announcement” and “decision”.

In addition to that the X account @RobloxNoobifier has a bio (archived here) that reads:
Parody Roblox news, most posts are just goofs with some exceptions. Run by Co-Owner
@DGR_64
and others.
It also showed the words “Parody account” in the header.
A search on Google News for stories mentioning the phrases “roblox”, “january 1st” and “shutting down” returned no results (archived here).
There also was no sign of any shutdown announcement on the corporate newsroom page (archived here) of the company running the game at the time of writing.
