Iran still seeks nuclear weapons, says Mossad’s head

Must read

Investing.com — Israel’s intelligence chief David Barnea has accused Iran of continuing to pursue nuclear weapons development with the intention of using them against Israel.

“Iran has not abandoned its ambition to destroy the State of Israel,” Barnea said in a speech this week. “The idea of continuing to develop a nuclear bomb still beats in their hearts.”

The Mossad head’s remarks come six months after Israel, with U.S. support, conducted strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, which led to a 12-day exchange of fire between the two nations.

Barnea, who is set to step down in mid-2026, emphasized Israel’s commitment to preventing Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “It is our responsibility to ensure that the nuclear project, which has been mortally wounded in close cooperation with the Americans, will never be activated,” he said.

The intelligence chief also expressed concern about potential diplomatic developments. “Iran believes it can once again fool the world and realize another bad nuclear deal,” Barnea stated. “We did not and will not allow a bad deal to materialize.”
