Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State and his predecessor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, met face-to-face for the first time on Tuesday after the 2023 elections.
The duo, who were political rivals, met for the first time at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA in Kano State, after about two years and a highly contested election.
The meeting, which was by coincidence, saw the duo exchanging pleasantries in a friendly manner and atmosphere.
Ganduje, who was Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, was said to be in Kano on inspection of the airport facility when they met with the Governor, who was trying to catch up with his flight on his way to Abuja.
The two-term former governor was received by APC chieftains, while Governor Yusuf was accompanied by top government officials.
Recall that Ganduje did not personally hand over power to Governor Yusuf as he delegated the then Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, to conduct the ceremony after the election.
Recall that Governor Yusuf, under the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, had defeated Ganduje’s anointed candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the 2023 election.
