…describes move as progressive realignment

By Adeola Badru

Barely two weeks after resigning from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Kilamuwaye Badmus, popularly known as BAKO and the party’s former Southwest Zonal Public Relations Officer, has officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He described the move as a “progressive alignment” aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

Badmus made the announcement on Monday in Abeokuta during his official declaration of membership in the PDP, in the presence of party leaders, supporters, and political associates.

Speaking to journalists, he explained that his decision followed “deep reflection on Nigeria’s current political realities” and a desire to work with “a broader coalition of like-minded patriots committed to genuine democratic advancement.”

“Politics, for me, has always been about service to humanity, not sentiment. After wide consultations with my supporters and mentors, I resolved to join the PDP, a platform that promotes youth participation, inclusiveness, and national unity,” he said.

Badmus emphasized that his defection was motivated by “a strategic and patriotic conviction” to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy, rather than personal ambition.

Reflecting on his time in the NNPP, he expressed appreciation for the experience gained, describing it as “a period of learning and service.” He added, “I am proud of my time with the NNPP, but for Nigeria to move forward, we must align with platforms that have the structure, experience, and reach to deliver tangible progress to our people.”

He had formally resigned from the NNPP on October 29, 2025, thanking his former colleagues for their support and acknowledging the party as “a movement that helped shape my political voice and strengthened my advocacy for youth inclusion.”

During his tenure as NNPP Southwest spokesman, Badmus was a visible figure in the region, coordinating grassroots mobilisation, media strategies, and youth engagement initiatives that strengthened the party’s public presence during the 2023 general elections.

Political observers have described his defection as a notable boost for the PDP in Ogun State and the South-West, given his influence among young political communicators and mobilisers.

A senior PDP leader in Ogun State, who attended the declaration, welcomed Badmus’s entry, calling it “a reflection of the growing reawakening among progressive-minded politicians committed to national stability.”

“Honourable Badmus’s decision to join the PDP demonstrates that the party remains a credible home for Nigerians passionate about reform and progress. We welcome him wholeheartedly,” the leader said.

Sources indicate that Badmus is likely to take an active role within the PDP’s youth engagement and publicity departments, leveraging his communication and media expertise to strengthen the party’s outreach across the region.
