The Federal Government has taken a major step towards modernising the operations of the Federal Executive Council FEC with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding MoU between the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation OSGF and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure NASENI to fully digitize the Council’s processes.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja and signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the OSGF.

The agreement, which was signed through the Cabinet Affairs Office CAO responsible for coordinating FEC activities, aims to ensure that by December 2025, all council deliberations and documentation will be conducted without papers.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Okop Umobong, described the partnership as a landmark step towards enhancing efficiency and transparency in government operations.

According to him, the digitization initiative will ease the workload of ministers and improve documentation and archival procedures in the Cabinet Office. “Digitization of the Cabinet Affairs Office will significantly ease the burden on Ministers, who currently have to handle voluminous documents during council meetings.

“In December 2024, we achieved real-time transcription of Council proceedings. This next phase will fully digitize all processes. By December 2025, we are confident that the Federal Executive Council will operate completely paperless, and we are grateful to NASENI for partnering with us to make this a reality,” he said.

On his part, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the agency had successfully implemented its own internal digital transformation and was now ready to extend the same expertise to the OSGF.

He noted that the collaboration aligns with the government’s broader vision of leveraging technology to promote efficiency, accountability, and innovation across public institutions.
