Eagles’ bonuses: Failure results when we fail to treat those who serve with dignity — Peter Obi

Must read

By John Alechenu, Abuja

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has described the controversy over unpaid bonuses owed to Super Eagles players as unfortunate and reflective of Nigeria’s misplaced priorities.

In a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, Obi lamented that while those in power often find funds for lavish spending and political patronage, they fail to reward those who dedicate themselves to serving the nation.

He wrote: “It is truly unfortunate that our Super Eagles, who consistently give their best in representing our dear nation, are being owed their allowances. We always seem to find money to waste on needless lavish spending and political patronage, yet we cannot pay those who patriotically raise our flag, bring us pride, and serve with dedication. That is what is found in a ‘now disgraced country.’”

Obi further noted that failing to treat those who serve the country with dignity sends a dangerous message to the youth — that hard work and patriotism are not valued.

“Those who represent Nigeria deserve to be paid promptly and treated with respect. We must do better. A New Nigeria is Possible,” he added.
