Archbishop Borokini tells Tinubu, Nigerians struggling to survive

Most Revd Simeon Borokini, the Archbishop of Ondo Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Akure Diocese, has expressed apprehension regarding the escalating financial distress across the nation, asserting that it is adversely affecting not only individuals and households but also spiritual organizations.

Delivering his address during the inaugural session of the 15th Diocesan Synod, themed “Trusting the God of Abundant Grace,” held at St. James’ Anglican Church, Oda, Akure, the clergyman lamented that numerous Nigerians are striving to subsist, with even congregations experiencing the repercussions due to diminishing contributions from congregants.

“The church does not receive any financial aid from the government,” Borokini pointed out. “It sustains itself through members’ offerings. However, if the economy is poor and people lack funds, the church also suffers. That is why we are urging the government to ameliorate the economic climate.”

He underscored the necessity for the federal administration to concentrate on establishing industries and employment avenues, emphasizing that economic advancement would not only empower citizens but also fortify institutions like the church that rely on public benevolence and backing.

Archbishop Borokini, nevertheless, commended President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s endeavors in combating insecurity, particularly in the northern region of the country. He observed that while the issue has not been entirely resolved, discernible progress has been made.

“There is a noticeable decrease in banditry and abductions in the North, possibly attributable to the efforts of the Defence Minister and security agencies,” he declared. “Although we cannot award a perfect score, there is betterment.
