The Anambra State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement within and outside the state during the November 8 governorship election.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement that the restriction will take effect from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Election Day.
According to him, the restriction applies to all roads across the state, including interstate highways. He added that the measure aligns with the unanimous decision reached at a meeting of Security Service Commanders held on November 5, 2025, at the Police State Headquarters in Awka.
“The decision is aimed at preventing the movement of political thugs and other criminal elements who may attempt to disrupt the electoral process,” Ikenga said.
The restriction covers all forms of motorized transportation, including private cars, commercial vehicles, trucks, tricycles, motorcycles, and shuttle buses.
The police advised interstate travelers to seek alternative routes during the restriction period.
Only persons on essential duties—such as designated INEC officials, accredited journalists and observers, medical personnel, emergency responders, and essential service providers—will be exempted. Such persons must carry valid identification and clearance tags at all times.
Ikenga urged residents to comply with the security measure, noting that it is designed to safeguard lives and property, ensure a peaceful atmosphere, and enable voters to freely exercise their rights.
He further called on the electorate to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel deployed across the state to enforce the directive and maintain order.
