Anambra Election: Keep to rules, Amupitan charges stakeholders

NATIONAL Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Joash Amupitan has charged all political parties, governorship candidates and members to stick to the rules guiding Saturday’s election.

He made the appeal in Awka, yesterday, at the stakeholders meeting organized by the commission.

Coming on the heels of the signing of the election’s peace accord 24 hours earlier, Amupitan who is having his first taste of election as INEC chairman stated once again that the commission was fully ready for the poll.

Giving a detailed rundown of their preparations, he disclosed that mock election was successfully carried out in 12 polling units in six LGAs to test and sharpen the commission’s operational readiness.

The Inspector General of Police who was represented by his Deputy in charge of Operations, Force Headquarters Abuja, DIG Ben Okolo, called for political tolerance and respect for democratic values, and urged candidates, parties and their supporters to commit genuinely to peace before, during, and after the election.

He charged them to ensure that all voices are heard, pointing out that campaigns will end on November 6, while election holds November 8.

The poll will be held 326 wards, 5718 polling units, 183 split polling units with 6,879 active BVAS machines.

24, 000 adhoc personnel went through training on election duties.

The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu commended INEC for the meeting which enabled them to throw light on their preparations and operational readiness.

He told journalists that APC and his campaign team are ready for Saturday ‘s election.
