Shutdown end in sight as House returns to vote; New Epstein emails allege Trump ties

Must read

The House is returning to Capitol Hill after nearly two months out of session for a vote that could reopen the federal government and end the record-long shutdown.

Most Democrats are firmly against the funding package, while Republicans are largely supportive. The bill appears poised to cross the finish line. Here are the key House members to watch.

Democrats in both the lower and upper chamber are fuming over Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) shutdown strategy after eight Senate Democrats voted to advance the bipartisan bill Monday. The GOP is spinning the deal as a victory for the conference.

But, as the shutdown’s end appears in sight, the political ramifications facing both parties over the historic funding lapse are coming into focus.

In other news, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released new emails in which the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein wrote that President Trump “of course” knew about his relationships with underage girls.

In the short exchanges, Epstein said Trump “spent hours at my house” while another said the president “knew about the girls.”

Trump on Wednesday will host a dinner with Wall Street CEOs at the White House. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt will also speak to reporters this afternoon.
