Mr Jude Ezenwafor, the candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra, says the Mr Chidi Chidebe-led State Executive Committee cannot suspend him.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Anambra PDP SEC, rising from a meeting, had announced the suspension of Ezenwafor for a period of one month for sabotaging the party in the just concluded governorship election.
The PDP Exco said Ezenwafor failed to campaign in any ward, local government, or across the state throughout the entire electioneering period up to the last date for campaigns, reason why they suspended him.
“In the light of the above and after due deliberation, the SEC resolved that Mr Jude Ezenwafor is hereby suspended from the PDP for a period of one month with immediate effect,” they said.
But Ezenwafor said he did not recognise the state executive committee and they had no powers to suspend him.
According to him, I do not recognise Chidebe and his group as the leadership of PDP in Anambra.
“I am the leader of the PDP in Anambra, they do not have powers to suspend me. PDP has an Administrative Secretary appointed by National Executive Committee,” he said.
In the poor performance of the PDP in the election, Ezenwafor said that he withdrew hours before the contest because of lack of finance and support.
He said that he obtained the ticket to save the party from collapse, dismissing allegation of sabotage as blackmail.
“I withdrew from the race hours before the election because I lacked the capacity to run on it. I actually tried to save the party, but nobody was willing to take over the baton,” he said. (NAN)
