Nigerian newspapers review: [Trump] Diplomatic engagements yielding results — FG

Must read

In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard leads with the Nigerian government stating that talks with the United States are yielding positive results in easing tensions between the two countries.

Another headline features Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stating that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has increased funding for all states in the federation.

Vanguard also reports that former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has secured another court order blocking the proposed national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Moving to another newspaper, The Guardian leads with stakeholders in the PDP warning that internal conflicts, court rulings, defections and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s actions have made the Ibadan convention unlikely and hurt the party’s chances of success in the 2027 elections.

Next paper, The Punch leads with tension over the 2026 budget which forced the House of Representatives to abruptly adjourn Tuesday’s plenary without addressing any items on the Order Paper.

Finally, The Nation reports that the Senate rejected the explanations provided by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) regarding unaccounted funds totalling ₦210 trillion, covering the period from 2017 to 2023.
