Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has once again been the victim of a “terrifying” home invasion — the second in two years.
Sterling previously endured a traumatic break-in during the 2022 World Cup, forcing him to leave England’s camp after his home was raided while his family were present.
Although suspects were identified then, the Daily Mail reports they are believed to no longer be in the UK.
The latest incident occurred on Saturday night, shortly before Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Wolves at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling and his children were in the house at the time, though they escaped unharmed.
A spokesperson for the England international confirmed the break-in, saying: “We can also confirm that he and his children were present at home at the time. Whilst the ultimate violation of privacy and safety, we are thankful to be able to confirm that he and his loved ones are all safe. We ask that the privacy of Raheem and his loved ones be respected at this challenging time.”
Thames Valley Police have launched an investigation, urging members of the public with any information to come forward: “Officers are conducting a thorough investigation and ask anyone with information, or if they saw anyone in the area acting suspiciously, to contact police.”
Chelsea are also said to be aware of the incident and are offering support to the winger.
Sterling’s last competitive appearance came in May while on loan at Arsenal, where he featured against Southampton. He has since returned to Chelsea but is yet to feature for the club this season.
