MINNA — The Progressive Governors Forum has called on traditional rulers across the country to deepen their engagement and support toward addressing the persistent insecurity affecting many parts of Nigeria.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Chief Hope Uzodimma, made the appeal when he led a delegation of governors on a solidarity and condolence visit to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago at the Government House, Minna, Niger State.

Governor Uzodimma acknowledged the ongoing efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to tackle insecurity nationwide, but emphasized the importance of leveraging traditional institutions, community structures, and local support systems to complement government actions.

He said: “Traditional rulers play an important role in maintaining peace and stability in their communities. We urge them to continue supporting security efforts and to mobilize all legitimate community-based mechanisms that can help safeguard lives and property.”

The Governors were in Niger State to commiserate with the government and people over recent tragedies—including flooding in Mokwa, recurring boat mishaps, tanker accidents, and security-related incidents that have resulted in loss of lives and displacement of residents.

“We have come to console our colleague and assure him of our prayers and support. Governor Bago is one of our best—energetic and committed—and with continued support, we believe he will deliver on the mandate given to him,” Uzodimma said.

Responding, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago expressed deep appreciation to his colleagues for identifying with the state during a difficult period. He outlined the various security challenges and disasters confronting the state in recent years and reaffirmed his administration’s determination to address them.

The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, also thanked the Forum for the visit and assured them of the continued cooperation of traditional institutions in supporting government initiatives.

Members of the delegation included Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), and Ahmed Usman Ododo (Kogi).

Deputy Governors Abubakar Umar Argungu (Kebbi), Aminu Usman (Jigawa), and Idris Mohammed Gobir (Sokoto) were also in attendance.
