Operatives of the DCT Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups, commenced a special patrol on November 9, 2025, covering churches and places of worship in forested and border communities linking Bwari–Kaduna State, Bwari–Niger State, and Gwagwalada–Niger State.
The operation followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, CP Miller Dantawaye, to ensure the safety of worship centres and residents across the FCT during the ember months.
“The operation, which lasted from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., was aimed at strengthening community confidence, deterring criminal elements, and ensuring that worshippers can conduct their religious activities without fear,” said SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson of the command.
She noted that church leaders in the affected areas were engaged and reassured of the CP’s commitment to their safety and that of their congregations. They were also advised on proactive security measures, including minimizing late-night activities, maintaining close contact with security agencies, and reporting suspicious movements or persons.
“Identified access routes often exploited by criminal elements have been blocked as part of intelligence-led preventive measures. Strategic security posts within the forest areas remain active and under constant supervision,” SP Adeh added.
The FCT Police Command emphasized that safety is a shared responsibility, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. For emergencies or information, the public is encouraged to contact the command through the following numbers: 08032003913, 08068587311, CRU 08107314192, or the Public Relations Officer at 07038979348.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents that the FCT remains safe and that the command will continue to adopt dynamic strategies to maintain a secure environment for all.
