A coalition of civil society organizations has called on the Nigerian Senate to promptly consider the confirmation of Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as Chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, the Conveners of the Empowerment for Unemployed Youth Initiative (EUYI), Comrade Danesi Momoh Prince and Comrade Igwe Ude-umanta, noted that on October 22, 2025, the Senate Committee on Power, chaired by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, had vetted Ramat alongside two other nominees — Abubakar Yusuf (Commissioner, Consumer Affairs) and Fouad Olayinka Animashaun (Commissioner, Finance & Administration) — for confirmation.
The coalition emphasized the importance of timely confirmation for effective leadership in the electricity sector, highlighting that Ramat brings extensive experience in electrical engineering, telecommunications, strategic management, and prior leadership roles, including serving as the pioneer Managing Director of the Kano Metropolitan Agency (KASMA). Ramat is also a COREN Fellow and a Harvard alumnus.
The group urged the Senate to conclude the confirmation process promptly, stressing the need for efficient leadership in the power sector to support ongoing reforms and national development.
