Governor Chukwuma Soludo has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as the most credible and efficient election conducted in Anambra State in recent years.
Soludo gave the commendation on Sunday during his acceptance speech after being declared the winner of the November 8 governorship election.
The governor particularly praised the new INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, noting that the conduct of the election demonstrated a strong and positive first impression of his leadership.
“To the Independent National Electoral Commission, I must very specifically thank you and thank in particular, the new INEC chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan,” Soludo said. “This is your first outing, and as the saying goes, you don’t have a second chance to create a first impression. I am very excited that your very first impression is a very emphatic one.”
Soludo said the election reflected steady improvements in electoral administration in the state, especially since the introduction of technological innovations.
“INEC delivered, and I must put it on record that since I’ve been participating actively in the electoral process in Anambra—particularly since 2017 when you started experimenting with technology—every election here has been getting better and better,” he said. “It is fair to say that this is the best that you have organised so far in Anambra.”
The governor also recalled the August bye-election, describing it as “super,” and adding that the November 8 poll was “even more impressive.”
He commended the electoral officials, security agencies, and voters who participated in the process, calling the exercise a demonstration of growing confidence in democratic institutions.
Soludo was declared the winner of the election on Sunday after securing 422,664 votes, to defeat his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes.
