Must read

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two unidentified suspects found in possession of human parts.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emenari Ifeanyi, disclosed this, yesterday, in Makurdi, while briefing journalists.

According to him, the suspects were apprehended on October 22 in Okpokwu Local Government Area by the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, who later handed them over to the police.

He said the suspects were caught with a human head, lap, and heart, and have since been charged to court after investigation.

Ifeanyi further revealed that between mid-September and the end of October, 181 suspects were arrested in connection with crimes including armed robbery, cultism, banditry, culpable homicide, and illegal possession of firearms.

He added that within the period under review, the command recorded 14 homicide cases, 12 armed robberies, four kidnappings, 16 banditry or terrorism-related incidents, and three cult-related cases.

A total of 15 firearms, 67 rounds of ammunition, three stolen vehicles, and 23 rescued kidnapped victims were recovered during various operations, he said.

The Commissioner noted that sustained clearance operations in the Sankera axis — covering Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo LGAs — led to the arrest of over 70 banditry suspects, the destruction of criminal hideouts, and the return of displaced residents to their homes and farms.

He also disclosed that raids in Otukpo and Ohimini LGAs on October 25 resulted in the arrest of 39 suspected armed robbers linked to earlier attacks on security personnel.

Ifeanyi announced that a total of 445 officers and men within the command have been promoted, and commended the synergy between the police and other security agencies, including Operation Whirl Stroke and the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, in restoring peace and order across the state.
