JALINGO — The Tiv Taraba Youth Development and Progressive Forum (TTYDPF) has called on the state and federal governments to urgently intervene following renewed violence in Tiv communities within Chanchanji Ward, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

In a statement signed by its President, Torkuma Luper Moses, and General Secretary, Uko Moses Wuaga, the group condemned the recent attacks, which they said began last week and have led to loss of lives, injuries, displacement, and extensive destruction of property.

The affected villages were listed as Tornyi, Unom, Sati, Agia, Iorbume, Tse Uhembe, Tse Ugbaa, Yongogba, Gidin, Tse Adam, and Apiita.

According to the group, survivors have fled to nearby communities where they are now facing shortages of food, shelter, and medical assistance. They also noted that the destruction of crops and farmlands has deepened the economic hardship of the largely agrarian communities and heightened concerns over food insecurity in the area.

TTYDPF appealed to the Federal and State Governments to restore peace and stability in the affected communities. The group also called for the urgent deployment of security personnel to prevent further violence.

Other recommendations include: Establishing additional military outposts to improve security presence;

Providing emergency relief materials — including food, medical supplies, and temporary shelters — to displaced residents;

Conducting a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible;

Facilitating a peace dialogue between Tiv and Fulani community leaders to address longstanding tensions.

The group urged authorities to act swiftly to prevent further escalation and to support the communities impacted by the crisis.
