Must read

The newly confirmed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, on Thursday arrived at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for his official swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu.

According to Channels Television, Amupitan was received at the State House, where he exchanged pleasantries with dignitaries and guests ahead of the ceremony.

The swearing-in, scheduled for 1:00 p.m., will officially mark the beginning of his tenure as the country’s chief electoral officer.

His appearance at the Villa follows his confirmation by the Senate on October 16, after a rigorous screening process. Nominated by President Tinubu and approved by the National Council of State, Amupitan succeeds Professor Mahmood Yakubu, whose tenure recently came to an end.

He becomes the sixth substantive chairman of the electoral body since its establishment.
