NEW YORK — Maurene Comey, a longtime federal prosecutor who handled the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases, on Monday sued the Trump administration over her July firing for which she was given no explanation.
Comey, the daughter of former FBI director and Trump foe James Comey, in the lawsuit alleged her termination was “unlawful and unconstitutional,” and described it as unmerited, saying it occurred one day after the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office asked her to take the lead on a “major public corruption case” and three months after she earned an “Outstanding” performance review.
“Defendants fired Ms. Comey solely or substantially because her father is former FBI Director James B. Comey, or because of her perceived political affiliation and beliefs, or both,” according to the lawsuit.
A spokesperson for the Justice Department didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
