Former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has maintained that the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State was a decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The ex-governor said when he appeared on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Thursday.
“The endorsement was the decision of the part. Left to me, I have no cause to go back to the APC because I was part of the merger that made the APC. I was the national secretary of the new PDP.”
He said the endorsement does not invalidate his disposition to the APC, adding that the endorsement was a chess game.
“It’s a political chess”, he said.
When asked to interpret what he meant by political chess, the ex-governor said that if he did, he would be giving away his party’s strategy.
He added that his support for the endorsement has nothing to do with his integrity as a politician.
Oyinlola maintained that politics requires pragmatism to get a desired result.
It is worth recalling that Governor Adeleke and the leadership of the PDP in Osun State recently threw their weight behind President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The PDP announced the endorsement in a communique issued on Monday after a stakeholders meeting that took place at the Government House in Oke-Fia, Osogbo.
The communique read in part: “The leaders hereby resolve that the PDP in Osun State recognises the fact that Osun State is the ancestral home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which makes the President the son of Osun State. Therefore, the PDP in Osun State hereby adopts and endorses President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.”
