Podcaster Joe Rogan slammed President Trump for his remarks about the death of Hollywood director Rob Reiner.
“The Rob Reiner thing is not funny, right? And that’s like the same thing. It’s the same kind of thinking. And when you see it with no empathy, that’s when it’s hard to like [him],” Rogan said of Trump during Thursday’s episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
His guest, comedian Shane Gillis, chimed in and said, “I wish he could apologize. I know he can’t and he won’t.”
The two’s comments echo other statements condemning the president’s post in the aftermath of the death of Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The Reiners’ son Nick was eventually arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Moments after news of Rob Reiner’s passing broke, Trump said he’d died “due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.”
In a post on the social platform X, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), a vocal Trump critic, called the president’s comments “inappropriate and disrespectful.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) noted Nick Reiner’s long history with drug abuse, calling the deaths “a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies.”
Rob Reiner was a donor for the Democratic Party and frequently voiced his opposition to Trump.
“Make no mistake. We have a year before this country becomes a full on autocracy and democracy completely leaves us,” Reiner told the MSNBC, now known as MS NOW, in September.
In an interview with The Guardian last year, Reiner called Trump “a criminal” who “basically lies every minute of his life.”
Still, Rogan said Trump’s remarks about his passing was uncalled for.
“It’s no different than people that were celebrating when Charlie Kirk got shot. It’s same kind of thing,” Rogan said of Trump’s comments.
The podcaster noted that former President Obama would have faced heavy backlash for sharing a similar statement.
“That would be crazy,” Rogan said. “It just shows you how crazy it is the way Trump thinks and talks.”
