Investing.com — The U.S. has moved a large contingent of special-operations aircraft and multiple cargo planes carrying troops and equipment into the Caribbean region this week, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that cited U.S. officials and flight-tracking data.
The deployment provides the U.S. with additional military options in the region, as the Trump administration intensifies pressure on Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
President Trump has recently escalated actions against Venezuela, implementing a blockade of oil tankers entering and leaving the country. The president has also declared Venezuelan airspace closed and has not ruled out the possibility of airstrikes.
