“a lie” that Russia wants war with the West

Must read

Investing.com — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday dismissed what he called Western “hysteria” about a potential major conflict with Russia, while simultaneously threatening military action to take claimed Ukrainian territories if peace talks fail.

Speaking at Russia’s Defense Ministry meeting, Putin characterized statements about a Russian threat as “a lie” and said the “degree of hysteria is increasing” in the West, where he claimed there were calls to prepare for a large-scale war.

Despite the confrontational rhetoric, Putin stated that Russia seeks “mutual cooperation” with the United States and European states.

The Russian leader asserted that NATO is supporting Ukraine, but claimed Russian forces are enhancing their capabilities in response. He expressed confidence that the goals of what Russia calls its “special military operation” in Ukraine “will be reached.”

Putin delivered a clear warning that Russia would “liberate its land by military means” if Ukraine and what he referred to as “its masters” abandon dialogue, referring to territories Russia claims in Ukraine.
